Day 7
June 11th
Slept in late again and ate breakfast at the Feldstein’s before hitting the road around noon. We drove three and a half hours to Hollywood, where Terri’s childhood friend, Linda and her family live. Along the way, we met a friendly man of about 60 during a gas station stop in Ventura, who had been to Alaska and shared with us some of his stories and adventures from visiting there. It's always fun to meet new friends. After driving through downtown Los Angeles, we arrived at Linda’s house in Hollywood. They live in a beautiful neighborhood, lined with palm trees along the street. We got settled and met Linda and her husband Erwin, who both work in the movie business, as well as their two kids, who are both high school age. After chatting for a while and having a nice visit with the whole family, we left for Angel stadium in Anaheim, which happens to be right across the street from Disneyland. We hit worse traffic than expected driving to the ballpark, and didn’t make it to the game and find our seats up in the nose bleed section until the top of the second inning. After a couple of innings, Riley and Peter went out to try and see about moving closer, and found some seats a couple decks down, on the third base side, where we watched the rest of the game. We were lucky enough to see yet another tight game, as the Angels rallied to beat the Royals 7-5, and are now 3 for 3 in home teams winning on the trip. The Angels jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the second inning and one in the third, but the Royals chipped away at the lead to tie the game at five apiece by the sixth. Los Angeles struck for two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, on a wild pitch and an RBI infield single, and cruised from there on to victory. After the game, there was a Taio Cruz concert on the field that we decided to stick around for, even though none of us really cared too much for his music and were obviously not the targeted audience. It was kind of fun but we ended up taking off before it was over and driving back to Hollywood for the night. Tomorrow we plan to leave for San Diego in the morning for a day game at Petco Park, followed by a visit to the San Diego zoo. We will then drive back to LA and stay with Linda and her family for a second night.
