June 5th
Day 1: The journey began at 3:53 AM, as Alex and I piled into the Campbell’s friend’s van in Eagle River, on our way to the Anchorage airport. We arrived in Seattle around 10:30 AM and met Riley and Peter, who had arrived an hour prior, at the baggage claim. Micah picked us up in the van soon after, and the five of us were finally united. The van, while limited in space, looks like it will work just fine and seems to handle well. We found Tess’s apartment in downtown Seattle fairly easily, got settled, and went to the beach for ten minutes before realizing that it wasn’t really ideal beach weather. After stopping at Safeway to pickup supplies, Tess dropped us off at Safeco Field and the baseball adventure began. The Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-6, in an exciting, back and forth game, in which catcher, Miguel Olivo’s 8th inning three-run homer gave the Mariners the lead for good. After the game, we walked back to Tess’s apartment, but not before making a stop in the international district to find “an exotic drink”. The lesson learned today was, “Never ever buy a drink that you can’t read the label of”. After going back to Tess’s for a quick bite to eat, Alex, Peter, and I headed over to Tacoma to visit Dylan (Baker) and Jamie (Daniel) for about an hour. We had our first near death experience when Micah choked on a pizza crust and struggled to breathe for a few seconds, but a quick pat on the back relieved him of his misery. Now, we’re back at Tess’s apartment lying low and planning out tomorrow’s activities. We plan to leave Seattle tomorrow morning and drive to Eugene, where we’ll visit Cole (Lendrum) for a couple hours and then head over to the coast to camp for the night. Everything has gone smoothly so far and we’re looking forward to a new tomorrow.
