Day 3 (Gold Beach to Kelseyville)

Day 3

June 7th

Got up and left the motel in Gold Beach around 10:30 to went down to the beach to explore the coast. Found some cool rocks to climb on and enjoyed the scenic view of the ocean. Got back on the highway and headed down 101 to Redwood National Park in Northern California. Once we reached the national park, we went on a short walk and were blown away by the massive trees and natural beauty that surrounded us. We continued down the California coast, making stops to watch some elk at a roadside viewpoint and admire the beautiful Northern California countryside. We reached Kelseyville, home of the Stempes, around 7 PM, and got a bite to eat at a local Pizza parlor. I would describe Kelseyville as a quiet, rural farm town in the middle of nowhere with not a lot going on, but with a simple, rustic charm to it. We headed over to the Stempe’s house, where we were greeted by their dog (Cyrus… or something), who was sitting out on the porch. We later met Jane and got settled for the night. There’s a pasture next door, where two majestic, brown horses stand and graze, and we passed a girl who was walking her pet goat, down the dirt road on a leash. It became a little bizarre when she started speaking to it and calling him George. We drove for at least 8 hours today and covered about 324 miles.
Tomorrow we plan to leave for San Francisco in the morning for a 12:45 ball game at AT&T park, and then stay with the Emerichs (my aunt and uncle) in San Rafael.
