Baseball Road Trip 2011: Day 6 (San Luis Obispo)

Day 6

June 10^th

Slept in till eleven this morning, followed by a delicious breakfast at the Feldstein’s with Bob and Rivian. Today was our first day where we didn’t need to drive any long distances and could just relax and enjoy the city. We left the house around 12:30 to go take in San Luis Obispo. We first went to go walk the Cal Poly campus, where Alex will be going to school this fall. It was fun to explore the campus with Alex, who was also seeing it for the first time. It was highlighted by meeting a friendly parrot named Larry, who willingly perched on Peter and Riley’s arms though we were slightly disappointed that he didn’t talk. After Cal Poly, we headed over to the beach to catch some rays. It was a comfortable day, hovering around 70 degrees, and while the water was too cold for me, Micah and Peter jumped off the pier for a little added excitement. The sun and warm sand felt great, though Peter got a number of interesting looks at the beach because of his strikingly red sunburn. We went back to the house for a dinner of pasta and meatballs, and then headed out to the Avila Beach street market, where various food stands lined the street, and a live band played in front of a crowd of jubilant dancers. After seeing everything there was to see at the market, we drove to another pristine beach where we took advantage of the beautiful California sunset. We got back to Alex’s grandparent’s around 8:30 and all crowded onto a pullout bed to watch a movie. The Feldsteins couldn’t have been more accommodating and were incredibly welcoming hosts. Tomorrow, we plan to leave for Los Angeles by 1:30 in the afternoon for a 6:05 PM ball game in Anaheim. We’re going to be staying with Terri’s (Alex’s Mom’s) old high school friend, Linda, and her family in LA.
