Day 18 (Seattle to Juneau)

Day 18 (The home stretch)

June 22nd

Woke up this morning to Peter calling Alaska Airlines about getting on an earlier flight back to Juneau, since we were all ready to be home and didn't have any plans for that day. Chances of getting on a 12:50 PM flight sounded promising, so we cleaned all our stuff out of the van, said goodbye to Jessie (the van), and headed over to Seatac. Alex, Riley, Peter, and I all got on the flight, while Micah agreed to stay in Seattle and take care of returning the van to his uncle, before flying back to Juneau in the evening by himself, on our originally scheduled flight. We all returned home, safe and sound, from the greatest and most memorable adventure that I could have possibly imagined.

On behalf of the five of us, I want to take this time to sincerely thank everyone that helped make this road trip the amazing experience that it was.

Day 17 (Honeyville to Seattle)

Day 17 (Honeyville to Seattle)

June 21st

Woke up to hearty breakfast of waffles, eggs, and potatoes, said our goodbyes, and were on the road, leaving Honeyville, Utah, by noon. 14 hours later, at about 1 AM, west coast time, we reached Seattle and checked into a cheap motel in the Seatac area for the night. Tomorrow night we're scheduled to return to Juneau, but if we can, we may try and catch an earlier flight back.

Day 16 (Moab to Honeyville)

Day 16 (Moab to Honeyville)

June 20th

Got up around 8 and left the campground by 9 to head over to Arches National Park, just a few miles down the road. Grabbed breakfast at a McDonalds and ate it in the van before entering the national park. After an upward climb up the mountain we arrived at Windows Arches, and got out of the car to explore. The Arches were really cool and made for some great climbing spots. Peter befriended a lizard and we walked around the rock sculptures until we felt ready to move on to another view point. We packed into the van and headed over to another spot called Devil’s Garden. We hiked around there for about an hour, taking in all the impressive sights and bathing in the warm, but not uncomfortably hot, sun. After the hike, we cleaned out the van for the five hour drive up to Honeyville, Utah, about an hour and a half north of Salt Lake, where we’d be staying the night with the Perry’s. Jeannie Perry is the sister of family friend, Dave Hunsaker, and Riley and I had met her son Braden a couple summers ago when he came up to visit Juneau. We arrived in Honeyville, and found their house pretty easily. The Perrys live in a beautiful house, surrounded by 80 acres of farm land, with a little, picturesque, red barn for a garage, next door. We were warmly welcomed by Jeannie, her husband Blair, Braden, and w a delicious dinner of spaghetti. After eating and engaging in interesting dinner conversation, we headed outside for an intense game of basketball in the dark, on their court outside, with Braden and his friend Dan, who joined us later. The game grew more difficult as it got later but was still a lot of fun. We retired to our respective rooms, which were tastefully themed by season. Micah and I are sleeping in the fall room which seems to capture it very nicely. Tomorrow, we plan to get up and get on the road by late morning to make our way back towards Seattle. We will try and get as close as we can tomorrow and will probably stay a night in a motel somewhere along the way.
